Pilates Workout in Malvern

A Pilates workout is one of the most popular body and mind exercises of today. It gained popularity in the 1990s. The modern Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, a German born in 1883. As a child, Joseph was sickly and growing up he wanted to develop an exercise that could help improve his physical strength and overcome his weaknesses . To cut the long story short, Joseph Pilates succeeded, and has paved the way for the modern Pilates. There are many questions that revolve around Pilates exercises, and here we answer some of them.

What are the functions and benefits of a Pilates workout? As opposed to strength training, Pilates is a set of exercises done to enhance the strength of the core of the body. The core of the body refers to the deep abdominal muscles and the deep back muscles. This means that you could be strong without building up too much muscle. And instead on focusing on specific parts of the body, these workouts focus on the body’s stability as a whole, each movement must stem from a strong central core. It is popular because it appeals to people who need to become emotionally and mentally stable while having a good, overall physical welfare. Its main focus is in the development of the body and the mind as one unit,it engages the mind and the body to create a harmonious being that is strong both physically and mentally. And as Joseph Pilates would have wanted, Pilates workouts could be done by children as young as 10 years old and people as old as 100 years old.

Where is it done and who could benefit from it? Of course, you all know that Pilates exercises are done at home by people who want to be fit and relaxed. However, most people don’t know that Pilates exercises are also used to develop, improve and cure certain health conditions. These exercises could be done by patients who have suffered injuries and undergone surgeries. There are also private studios that hold Pilates classes for people who want to socialize with others as well as learn from others who are more knowledgeable on the program. A fitness center could hold these sessions as well, classes are available but it can also be taught as a one on one exercise developed specifically for you by a trained instructor that can analyse your body and posture.

But, what is a Pilates workout made of? To an outsider, a person who is doing a Pilates routine could look like he or she is doing a lot of breathing, slow movements, stretching, balancing and flexing. And to those people who think like this, you are basically correct. Here are some of the basic principles in a Pilates routine:

  • Breathing is a basic principle because it is considered a link between the body and the mind. Breathing deeply could benefit you more than you could ever imagine. It makes you think clearly. It clears your mind from the many different distractions as well as gives you concentration. It also helps to de stress the body and mind  and release tension.
  • Concentration is another basic principle, because without it there wouldn’t really be a point to the purpose and the forms of the different exercises. It is, as Joseph always said, better to do few exercises as long as you are concentrating rather than do many exercises without it.
  • Relaxation is needed for a person to do well in a Pilates workout and it is also needed to become accomplished in whole body balance. If you cannot relax, you would never be able to concentrate on what you are doing.
